The National Regulatory Authority for Communications allotted the first four individual carrier selection codes for one step dialling. The companies that requested and were granted the 16xy type individual codes are S.C. PC-NET DATA NETWORK S.A., S.C. NETMASTER COMMUNICATIONS S.R.L., S.C. NEVI CONS S.R.L. and S.C. PARLATEL S.R.L. In order to allow carrier service by one step dialling, these companies received the following carrier codes: 1612, 1622, 1631 and 1615, respectively.
Carrier selection allows the end users of fixed telephony services to choose whether a certain call is taken over and terminated long-distance or internationally by a carrier, other than the provider or providers they use for local calls. This can be done by dialling a code before dialling the digits of the international or long-distance telephone number they wish to call from a telephone connected to a fixed telephony network. The users can make this option when they consider the carrier’s offer is more advantageous than the offer of their provider as regards financial and quality aspects.
Until recently, these services were performed by means of an intermediate dialling tone that followed the carrier code. In order to offer the end users the possibility to benefit from these services, ANRC took all the measures as to eliminate the intermediate step between dialling the carrier code and the number called. In this respect, ANRC tested and afterwards introduced a new category of numbering resources, comprising 16xy type codes, that was technically necessary for the end users to benefit from this new option.
The four companies that received the requested individual codes will be able to provide carrier services for the subscribers to telephony services who are connected to digital exchanges. This represents an alternative to the telephony services offered by the providers of network access services and fixed telephony subscriptions, respectively.
