The National Regulatory Authority for Communications granted additional licenses for the use of numbering resources to 10 companies, who had asked for individual selection codes for the provision of carrier services by one step dialling. Carrier selection allows the end users of fixed telephony services to choose whether a certain call is taken over and terminated by a carrier, other than the provider they use for local calls. This can be done by dialling a code before dialling the digits of the international or long-distance telephone number they wish to call from a telephone connected to a fixed telephony network. Unlike the carrier services by two steps dialling, carrier selection by one step dialling eliminates the intermediate step between dialling the carrier code and the number called. Including the 4 individual carrier selection codes by one step dialling granted at the beginning of this month, the newly allotted numbering resources raise to 14 the number of operators that have the possibility to provide this type of service.
