Tuesday, February 18, 2003, Alexandrina Hirtan, Vice President of the National Regulatory Authority for Communications (ANRC), held a speach in the opening of the XII-th edition of the telecommunications specialised exhibition RO COM TEL 2003. The exhibiton is hosted by Sala Palatului between February 18-21, 2003, and gathers a number of 25 Romanian and foreign companies that activate in the field of telecommunications. All through this period, these companies will display their most recent products and services regarding telephony, Internet and cable transmissions.

Referring to the present situation of the telecommunications market, one month after liberalization, Alexandrina Hirtan stated that a total number of 659 companies have notified ANRC since the end of December. Among these, 463 companies have already received a Standard Certificate testifying the conformity of the documents and the right of these companies to provide the networks and services specified within the notification. A number of 80 companies from the total of those that received standard certificates will provide public telephony services and 141 will provide Internet services. Moreover, 56 of the public telephony services providers will provide local services, 66 – long-distance services and 77 – international services. All these information may be consulted at www.anrc.ro by clicking Registrul public al furnizorilor de retele si servicii de comunicatii electronice on the Romanian version of the website.

The Vice President of ANRC reaffirmed the importance of such events as RO COM TEL 2003 considering the recently liberalized market: „Although the exhibition addresses mainly the specialists, the results of the experience exchanges fostered by this event will reflect on the new products and services that the consumers will benefit from, especially considering that the public is looking forward to seeing the changes forecasted once the liberalization process started. This edition of RO COM TEL is the first exhibition on communications taking place after the beginning of the liberalization process and we foresee an increasing interest for these exhibitors. Moreover, I am positive that future similar events will become even more successful, due to the increasing number of diversified products and services within a developing market.”
