Today, October 15, 2007, the National Regulatory Authority for Communications and Information Technology has released the 2006 Report on the Market of Postal Services in Romania, elaborated based on the data transmitted by 218 providers of postal services.
238 providers of postal services had been authorised by the end of 2006, by 25.26% more than in 2005.
According to this report, in 2006, the postal traffic registered approximately 580 million postal items, 555 million (i.e. 96%) of which were addressed to people within the country (domestic traffic), the rest being cross-border postal items.
The report reveals that, in Romania, in 2006, 27 postal items were processed, on average, per capita, which indicates a clear growth from 22 postal items/capita, on average, processed in 2005, and 19 – in 2004.
In 2006, the domestic postal traffic rose by 17.42%, from 472 million postal items registered in 2005, to 555 million postal items. The growth rate of domestic traffic is positive, but constant, taking into account that, in 2005, the number of postal items increased by 17.55%, as compared to 2004.
As for cross-border traffic, during 2006, the largest batch was represented by incoming postal items – approximately 2 million items, i.e. 6 times more than the approximately 300,000 outgoing postal items.
The number of employees in the field of postal services exceeded 43,000, in 2006, 80.69% of these working for the National Company “Romanian Post“ and the rest – for privately-owned providers. As compared to 2005, last year, the number of employees in the private postal sector grew by approximately 22%.
The 2006 report on the market of postal services in Romania, published by ANRCTI today, is available (for the time being, in the Romanian language) here, on the authority’s website.
