This was one of the main topics debated together with the representatives of the National Regulatory Authority for Communications and Information Technology during the seminar held on the occasion of Romania’s Day at CeBIT 2008, in Hannover.
“The National Regulatory Authority for Communications and Information Technology maintains at affordable levels the licence fees for the frequency use in Romania, thus increasing the investors’ attraction towards this type of licences,” Dan Georgescu, the President of ANRCTI, declared during the seminar addressed to foreign investors interested in the Romanian communications market. “Together with the Ministry of Communications and Information Technology, we prepare the digital switchover, and we shall create the technical conditions required for introducing mobile television, which, we believe, shall represent the next revolution in the field, after the GSM revolution. Our estimates revealed that at least 10% of the more than 20 million mobile telephony users in Romania shall want to have access to this service,” the President of ANRCTI added.
Dan Georgescu discussed with the representatives of the Romanian communications industry which attended the CeBIT international fair and with the foreign guests, showing them the opportunities to develop the Romanian IT&C sector and the projects the Authority envisages in order to incentivize competition in the communications market and in order to make more attractive this sector for foreign investors. “The granting of a new licence for mobile communications within the 410-415/420-425 MHz frequency bands and of the licences that are to allow the use of the WiMAX technology represent two moments most awaited by the investors in the Romanian IT&C market”, Dan Georgescu showed.
Starting 2005, Romania yearly participates in CeBIT with a national stand. 30 companies, assembled under the brand RomaniaIT. Creative Talent. Technical Excellence, attend the 2008 Edition of CeBIT.
CeBIT is one of the most important international events in the field of information technology and communications. This year, CeBIT reached its 22nd edition and takes place between March 4 and 9 in Hannover, Germany. Approximately 6,000 exhibitors in the IT&C sector represent 77 countries at this year’s edition, on a 496,000 m2 exhibition surface.
