The National Regulatory Authority for Communications and Information Technology, by means of its territorial divisions of Bucharest, Cluj, Iasi and Timisoara, organises – between September 23 and September 25, 2008 – the ordinary examination session in view of issuing radioamateur and radiocommunications operator certificates in the land mobile service.
The candidates should be aware of the domestic and international regulations in the field, such as the Radiocommunications Regulation for the amateur service in Romania and the relevant sections of the Radiocommunications Regulation issued by the International Telecommunications Union (ITU), and should have knowledge of electronics and radio engineering, of the labour protection technical rules, as well as of the procedures for operating radio stations. During the examination, the candidates will also take a practical exam that tests their knowledge of the radiocommunications traffic rules. In order to obtain the certificate, the candidate must get the score provided by the Regulation, for each examination.
According to the International Telecommunications Union, communication through radioamateur stations, both terrestrial and via satellite, is very useful in cases of nature calamities and disasters. There were cases in Romania when, during the floods, given the absence of any other communications means, the connection was maintained with the help of radioamateurs, by means of their repeater stations.
In Romania, there are approximately 5,000 radioamateurs, aged between 6 and 90. This year, the members of the Romanian Federation of Radioamateurs took part in several international contests – the European Championships organised in Italy by the International Amateur Radio Union, where Romania obtained 16 medals, including 2 gold medals. Moreover, in the Balkan Radiogoniometry Championships for amateurs, organised in Serbia, the Romanians gained 8 medals, including 2 gold medals. Approximately 3 million persons have this hobby worldwide.
