The National Authority for Communications allotted the first national short numbers in the 118xyz range for harmonised services at European level.
The 118xyz telephone numbers are assigned, at European level, to the directory enquiry services. In Romania, such numbers will enable providers to offer both directory enquiry services and auxiliary services, such as caller’s connection to the enquired number, additional information on a subscriber or access to services of enquiring foreign directories of subscribers.
11 companies sent requests for the granting of national short numbers in the 118xyz range.
The first stage of the allocation procedure concerned the drawing of the order in which the 11 companies were able to express their options relating to the numbers they wish to obtain. After establishing the order and expressing the options, the 11 companies were allotted the following numbers:

During this week, the companies will be granted the licences for the use of numbering resources that are to include the national short numbers in the 118(xyz) range chosen by each provider. The respective companies are obliged to start providing services within 6 months from the date the licences are issued.
The companies will pay an annual usage tariff of RON 3,500, for each number allotted.
