ANCOM

On the occasion of the visit to Ankara, the President of the National Authority for Management and Regulation in Communications (ANCOM) of Romania, Mr. Valeriu Zgonea, met with the Deputy Minister of the Ministry of Transport and Infrastructure of the Republic of Turkey, Mr. Ömer Fatih Sayan, as well as with the President of the Information and Communication Technologies Authority of the Republic of Turkey (BTK), Mr. Ömer Abdullah Karagözoğlu.

During the meeting with Deputy Minister Ömer Fatih Sayan, opportunities for cooperation between the two countries in the field of electronic communications were discussed, with a focus on the development of 5G networks, satellite communications and critical infrastructure protection.

The President of ANCOM stressed that the exchange of expertise and good practices have an important role in addressing the common objectives of the two countries, in terms of reducing the digital divide. Moreover, he mentioned that Romania can represent a strategic gateway to the European single market for Turkish companies in the telecom and IT fields, due to attractive investment opportunities and highly qualified Romanian IT specialists. Mr. Stefan Tinca, Ambassador of Romania to the Republic of Turkey, also participated in the meeting.

In the meeting with the President of BTK, the discussions focused on regulatory policies in the field of electronic communications and postal services, collaboration within international organizations (International Telecommunication Union – ITU, Universal Postal Union – UPU, European Conference on Mail and Telecommunications – CEPT) and the implementation of the memorandum concluded between ANCOM and BTK, in order to capitalize on all opportunities for collaboration between the two regulatory authorities. BTK, recognized for its expertise in the convergence of satellite and terrestrial technologies, shares with ANCOM the objective of promoting a competitive and secure digital environment. Furthermore, ANCOM has a lot of experience in implementing European Union regulations that are of interest to BTK.

The partnership established by the Memorandum of Understanding and the bilateral discussions reflect the commitment of both authorities to promote a competitive, secure digital environment, aligned with international standards.
