The National Regulatory Authority for Communications and Information Technology announces the launch, starting July 1, 2008, of the initial procedure in view of assigning national numbers for directory enquiry services, within the 118(xyz) range. This procedure is conducted in accordance with the provisions of ANRCTI President’s Decision no. 321/2008 on the allocation and use of national short numbers for harmonised European services.

These numbers will be used for the provision of both directory enquiry services and of ancillary services, such as access to information on the subscriber’s scope of activity or profession, call termination to the enquired number, access to services of enquiring foreign directories of subscribers or access to directory enquiry services in foreign languages. During the initial assigning procedure, any provider that meets the requirements in the abovementioned decision will have the possibility to request 5 national short numbers within the 118(xyz) range. The holders of licences for the use these numbering resources shall pay ANRCTI a tariff of 3,500 RON, per year, for each number assigned.

Electronic communications service providers interested in obtaining a licence for the use of national numbers for directory enquiry services within the initial assigning procedure may submit licence applications during August 1 – 31, 2008, under the provisions of the ANRCTI President’s Decision no. 321/2008 on the allocation and use of national short numbers for harmonised European services and the provisions of ANRCTI President’s Decision no. 2896/2007 on the procedure of requesting and granting licences for the use of numbering resources.
