This morning, the President of the National Authority for Communications, Mr. Liviu Nistoran, met the Director General of the European Commission’s Information Society and Media Directorate-General, Mr. Fabio Colasanti, who came to Bucharest to discuss with the Romanian authorities.
The two officials approached hot issues of the Romanian electronic communications market, such as the measures ANC announced in view of regulating mobile call termination and the implementation of the universal service.
This January, ANC has sent the European Commission and the regulatory authorities of the other Member States the draft decisions for the broadcasting markets and the markets for call termination at mobile locations. These bodies are currently analysing the drafts and are invited to communicate their comments and suggestions throughout one month, at the end of which the Authority will be able to adopt the decisions.
The European official’s visit comes in the context of the recent initiation of the infringement procedure against Romania regarding the regulator’s independence.
