Additional information

What is carrier selection?

Carrier Selection is a procedure through which the users of fixed telephone services can choose, by dialling a code before the (international or long-distance) number they wish to call from a telephone set connected to a fixed telephony network, the respective call to be taken over and terminated abroad or in another county by a different „carrier”, instead of the provider they subscribe to and whose services they use for receiving or originating local calls. The users may make this option in case they consider the carrier’s offer more advantageous as concerns quality or financial conditions than the offer of the provider they subscribe to.

This carrier selection code is a digit sequence of the 10xy or 16xy type.

Two-step carrier selection:

Carrier selection was earlier performed exclusively through this procedure (by dialling 10xy indicatives, i.e. two-step carrier selection codes), which becomes effective after the carrier selection code is dialled.

One-step carrier selection:

ANRC took the required steps to offer the end-users the possibility to select their carrier, dialling “at once” the digit sequence consisting of the carrier selection indicative and the called number. This alternative is limited by the technological level of the telephone exchanges used.
