Based on the providers’ reports, ANRCTI established that the Romanian market of electronic communications and postal services amounted to EUR 4.61 billion, in 2007, increasing by approximately 16.7% as compared to 2006, when it amounted to EUR 3.95 billion.
”One can see considerable growth in the communications market, due to the higher revenue from data transfer and Internet access services provided at fixed locations, which increased by approximately 31%, as well as to the revenue from data transfer and telephony services provided at mobile locations, which increased by 11% in 2007, as compared to the previous year,” the ANRCTI President, Mr. Liviu Nistoran, declared.
Mr. Nistoran highlighted that ”finally, we can assess the real amount of the communications market, since more and more providers avail themselves of the possibility to communicate ANRCTI only the revenue obtained from the provision of electronic communications networks and services and of postal services, rather than their whole turnover, as they used to, until 2006.”
ANRCTI established the preliminary monitoring tariff for the year 2008 as 0,132% of the amount reported by the providers (turnover or revenues obtained, during 2007, (from the provision of electronic communications networks and services and of postal services). Thus, the total amount of the monitoring tariff, for 2008, reaches EUR 6.12 million (RON 20.39 million).
519 providers of electronic communications services and of postal services – of the more than 2,000 providers authorised by ANRCTI – registered more than EUR 100,000 turnover or revenues from the provision of electronic communications networks and services and of postal services and have thus the obligation to pay the monitoring tariff. 76 electronic communications providers and 12 postal service providers registered more than EUR 1 million revenues or turnovers in 2007.
The first best-ranked 20 electronic communications providers, as much as the turnover is concerned, achieved in 2007 a EUR 4.27 billion (i.e. RON 14.28 billion) total turnover, higher by 18.1% as compared to the 2006 turnover, i.e. EUR 3.62 billion (i.e. RON 12.76 billion), respectively by 22.9% compared to the 2005 turnover, when the cumulated turnover of the first best-ranked 20 electronic communications providers was of EUR 2.94 billion (i.e. RON 10.68 billion).
“In 2007, the most significant electronic communications operators, from turnover standpoint, remained, as in 2006, Orange, Vodafone and Romtelecom; however, the most spectacular growth rates were registered by Cosmote, RCS & RDS and UPC,” Mr. Liviu Nistoran appreciated.
The due monitoring tariff shall be communicated to each operator, by decision, and is due to be paid within 30 days from the communication date.
