The National Regulatory Authority for Communications, represented by Alexandrina Hirtan, Vice-President, attends the first edition of the conference entitled “Advancing in Telecommunications Regulation – Black Sea and Caspian Regulatory Conference”, taking place in Istanbul between May 25-27, 2006.

The event is organised by the regulatory authority of Turkey together with Wissenschaftliches Institut fur Kommunicationsdienste (WIK) – a prestigious German consultancy company. The conference aims at analysing the regulatory systems and the best practices available at international level, as well as at defining the principles of a regulatory framework that is adequate to the countries in the Black Sea and Caspian Sea region, facing specific challenges.

ANRC Vice-President addressed the conference during the session entitled “Regulatory strategies for fixed telecommunications”, in the first day of the event, and presented the strategy and regulatory measures applied by ANRC in order to stimulate competition in the voice and Internet services market in Romania, as well as the results of these endeavours.

The conference is organised under the patronage of the Turkish Minister of Transports and benefits from the presence of Mr. Fabio Colasanti, high official of the Directorate General for Information Society and Media of the European Commission. Representatives of the International Telecommunication Union, the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development, the regulatory authorities of Albania, Azerbaijan, Bulgaria, France, Georgia, Germany, Hungary, Ireland, Moldavia, Ukraine, United Kingdom, as well as several well known consultancy companies and universities from Europe and The United States of America are also present.
