The National Regulatory Authority for Communications and Information Technology, by means of its territorial branches of Bucharest, Cluj, Iasi and Timisoara, organises between October 17 to October 27, 2007, the ordinary examination session in view of achieving the radioamateur and radiotelephonist certificates.
Radioamateurism consists mainly of studying, experimenting, installing and using radiocommunications means for non-commercial interest. The radioamateur certificate shall be issued by ANRCTI following an exam, organised in two sessions, in April and October, each year, by ANRCTI’s territorial branches. This year’s exams shall be taken as follows: on October 24 in Bucharest, October 20 in Iasi, October 23 in Timisoara and, respectively, on October 27 in Cluj. Further information on these exams is available here, on ANRCTI website.
In order to participate in the exam, candidates shall be aware of the domestic and international regulations in the field, such as Radiocommunications Regulation for amateur service in Romania and the relevant sections of the Radiocommunications Regulation issued by the International Telecommunications Union (ITU), as well as of the electronics and radio engineering notions and technical norms on work safety. They shall also have knowledge on the procedures of operating radiocommunication stations. During the examination, candidates shall take a practical exam, as well, in order to prove their knowledge on radiocommunications traffic rules. In order to obtain the certificate, the candidate shall achieve the norm provided for each examination in the Regulation.
A novelty that was introduced upon the requests of the Romanian radioamateur community refers to the fact that the subjects for the electronics and radio engineering exam, for the IIIrd and IInd class of certificates, shall be selected from a pre-established list of subjects, which is available for consultation here.
According to the International Telecommunications Union, communication through radioamateur stations, both terrestrial and with satellite transmission, is very useful in cases of natural calamities and disasters. There were cases in Romania when, during the floods, in the absence of any other means of communications, the connection was maintained with the help of radioamateurs, by means of their repeater stations.
In Romania there are approximately 5,000 radioamateurs, with ages ranging from 6 to 90. This year, in the 7th edition of the World High Speed Telegraphy Championship held in Belgrade (Serbia), Romania obtained 25 medals, among which 2 gold medals, 8 silver medals and 16 bronze medals. Approximately 3 million persons practise this sport-hobby worldwide.
