On Tuesday, February 17, 2004, the President of the National Regulatory Authority for Communications (ANRC) Ion Smeeianu delivered a speech in the opening of the 13th edition of the telecommunications exhibition RO COM TEL 2004. The event gathers IT&C companies from Romania and abroad that present their latest products and services.
In the opening of the event, the President of ANRC underlined the dynamism of the Romanian communications market that, as Smeeianu stated, “is developing at triple speed as compared to the other sectors of the economy, although these have also marked significant increase in the past years.” The President of ANRC estimated the IT&C market to double its volume, as compared to 2000. “The growth of this sector can only outline one thing: performance. It is about managerial performance, as the companies in the field fully exploited the new technologies in building businesses that more often than not proved to be success stories. Moreover, they managed to become prosperous and to grow on this market, while the rest of the world had to face the recession brought about by the fall of the global stock market quotes of the IT&C companies”, Smeeianu added.
Also, the President of ANRC mentioned that more than 1,900 companies who intend to operate on the communications networks and services market have submitted notifications to ANRC. 17 of the newly authorized companied have concluded interconnection agreements with Romtelecom. Smeeianu underlined the contribution the new regulatory frame and the technological neutrality policy had in obtaining these results.
The exhibition is open at the Palace Hall (Sala Palatului), until February 20, 2004.
