On April 6, 2005, the National Regulatory Authority for Communications will organise an international conference entitled “Romanian Communications, 2007 and Beyond”. This event is organised with the assistance of the European Union, by a Phare program, and aims at strengthening the dialogue between the industry and ANRC in order to establish and achieve a set of common strategic objectives in view of Romania’s accession to the European Union.

The conference offers the participants an excellent occasion for information and discussions. The Romanian companies acting in the communications field will be able to benefit from the international expertise of a number of renowned speciality consultants, as well as from the experiences of the representatives of companies and regulatory authorities from European countries that have already completed the accession procedure. Moreover, the participants will have the possibility to present their opinions on the challenges and opportunities offered by the Romanian communications market in the process of integration in the common European market.

This event represents one stage of a larger project developed by ANRC with the Phare support, designed to sustain the transition to a completely liberalised and competitive sector of electronic communications, as well as to restructure, reform and strengthen the institutional framework, for the purpose of promoting excellence in the regulatory activity. Within this project, ANRC conducted studies regarding the information needs of the providers of electronic communications services and identified those areas in which these providers demand the intensification of the information flow to and from the Authority. The conference as well as a series of meetings with the operators form all the counties in Romania, organised in the territory, in several sessions, are part of the information campaign initiated by ANRC within the Phare program.

The first session of the conference, “Romania’s Electronic Communications Sector Facing the European Integration”, will include a presentation of the priorities and policies of the electronic communications sector in view of our country’s integration in the European Union, as well as of the accession process experienced by the regulatory authority of Hungary. The second session will focus on the models and solutions for developing a successful business on the European Market, as practiced by the investors and by the new market players. The conference will be followed by two round tables, allowing the participants to discuss freely on the concrete mechanisms of promoting competition, as well as on the future-oriented technologies that allow the urban services to better adapt to the users’ needs, while offering solutions for the wide-scale provision of services in the rural area and for the enlargement of access to broadband Internet.

Prestigious speakers such as Mr. Zsolt Nagy, Minister of Communications and Information Technology, Mr. Varujan Pambuccian, President of the IT&C Commission of the Chamber of Deputies, representatives of the European Commission Delegation in Bucharest, of the market players and of the regulatory authorities from the Chech Republic, Great Britain, Germany, Romania and Hungary participate in the conference “Romanian Communications, 2007 and Beyond”.
