Today, March 4, 2005, Dan Cristian Georgescu has been appointed President of the National Regulatory Authority for Communications (ANRC), by Decision no.249/2005 of the Prime Minister, Calin Popescu-Tariceanu. By Decision no.248/2005, the Prime Minister released Ion Smeeianu from the position of ANRC President.

Dan Georgescu comes to lead the ANRC with the intention of “maintaining a correct partnership between the regulatory authority and the market players, where the authority can adopt proportional measures, adequate to the needs of the industry, with a view to enabling the market to grow naturally, in a climate that fosters business development to the benefit of the Romanian consumers of communications services.”

Mr. Dan Georgescu brings to ANRC his 25-year experience in the Romanian sector of electronic communications and will approach the sector regulation as one who knows the operators’ real problems, both from the angle of the businessman and that of a representative of the administration. He has a background in communications, held the position of counsellor of the last 5 Ministers of communications and the position of unique administrator of the National Radio-communications Company. In 2003, Mr. Dan Georgescu was elected to be President and Executive Manager of an association of telecommunications operators.
