The preliminary analysis of the statistical data reported every six months to ANRC by the providers of electronic communications networks and services revealed that, at the end of 2004, 60 companies provided fixed-line telephony services, as compared to 49 companies reported six months before. 24 of these companies provided telephone services through their own network, and 38 – through other providers’ access networks.
The 38 companies that already have subscribers reported 66,990 subscribers, three times more than in June 2004, when they had reported 20,818 subscribers to fixed-line telephone services. On the same date, the first two providers (ranked according to the reported number of subscribers) registered a joint rate of 85.4% of the approximately 67,000 subscribers of the alternative providers of fixed-line telephony services.
Voice traffic represents another development indicator for the fixed-line telephony segment. The alternative operators hold a 38.70% quota (97.4 million originated minutes) from the total traffic in the segment of international calls operated in 2004, as compared to 21.43% in 2003. Concerning the total traffic originated in the public fixed telephone networks, the alternative operators reported 258 million minutes in 2004, i.e. four times more than in 2003.
The complete set of statistical data, which is currently being processed, reflects the situation as of December 31, 2004 and has been reported to ANRC by January 31, 2005 by the providers of fixed-line telephony services, in compliance with the ANRC President’s Decision no.1332/2003.
