ANCOM

Communication is a fundamental social component; therefore access to the means of communication must be available for all the citizens. Post is a traditional and ever topical service. Postal services have an important social dimension and all the parties involved are committed to taking concrete action by which these services keep the pace of development.

The celebration of this day, October 9th, gives us the occasion to emphasize once again the importance of postal services in the society’s durable development. “We reach everybody, everywhere” is the theme that the Universal Postal Union chose to promote this year, highlighting a key goal of postal services: ensuring social cohesion and social inclusion. The safest means by which all the citizens of a country may benefit from access to such services, disregarding the geographical area they inhabit, is universal service.

Promoting universal service has grown as one of the major policies at the level of the Universal Postal Union and, furthermore, as a worldwide desideratum. Romania has made significant progress in this field, designating the first universal service provider in the postal service sector in the spring of the current year. As such, this provider shall have the responsibility of ensuring the Romanian users’ access to a package of basic services, despite geographical location or revenue level. Thus, by the end of next year, each locality in Romania shall benefit from at least one post box.

Our efforts of fostering the development of postal services give us reasons to talk about a new level of communication nowadays, enabling all the Romanian citizens to become part of the world and to evolve with it.
