 The broadcasting of content produced by certain media channels is prohibited in the European Union - ANCOM

For 25 media channels identified by the Council of the EU, the broadcasting of content produced by them in the EU member states is prohibited. The measures were ordered by Council Regulation (EU) No 833/2014 of 31 July 2014 concerning restrictive measures in view of Russia's actions destabilising the situation in Ukraine, with subsequent amendments and completions.

The media channels are Russia Today and Sputnik, with all their subsidiaries, RTR Planeta, Russia 24, TV Centre International, NTV Mir, Rossiya 1, REN TV, Pervyi Kanal, Oriental Review, Tsargrad, New Eastern Outlook, Katehon, Voice of Europe, RIA Novosti, Izvestija, Rossiiskaja Gazeta, EADaily/ Eurasia Daily, Fondsk, Lenta, NewsFront, RuBaltic, SouthFront, Strategic Culture Foundation and Krasnaya Zvezda/ Tvzvezda, according to Annex XV to Regulation no. 833/2014.

Thus, ANCOM specifies that, according to this Regulation, operators are prohibited from broadcasting or allowing, facilitating or otherwise contributing to the dissemination of any content by the legal persons, entities or bodies listed above, including by transmission or distribution by any means, such as cable, satellite, IP-TV, internet service providers, platforms or applications for sharing video materials on the internet, irrespective of whether they are new or pre-installed.

In Romania, the verification of compliance with the EU acts relating to international sanctions is carried out according to Government Emergency Ordinance no. 202/2008 on the implementation of international sanctions, approved with amendments and completions by Law no. 217/2009, with subsequent amendments and completions.
